Firearm Safety Rules
Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
This rule emphasizes that you should always handle firearms with the assumption that they are loaded, even if you believe they are not. This mindset helps prevent negligent discharges.
Never point the gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.
This means that you should always be conscious of where your firearm is pointed and ensure that it is never aimed at anything you do not intend to shoot. This helps prevent accidents if the gun were to discharge unexpectedly.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
By keeping your finger outside the trigger guard until you are ready to fire, you significantly reduce the risk of an accidental discharge.
Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
This rule stresses the importance of being aware of not only your intended target but also the area around and beyond it. Bullets can pass through targets and hit unintended objects or people, so knowing your surroundings is crucial.
